Created from Montreal Life Stories interviews with immigrants, Québécois, and people “in between,” Déraciné/Uprooted is a bilingual play that explores themes of cultural belonging, identity, and concepts of home. It had a public reading at the Balustrade Theatre of the Monumental National in Montreal, Quebec, in March 2012. In May 2014, Déraciné, a new version of the play entirely in French, had readings at Concordia University in Montreal and at the Carrefour international de théâtre in Quebec City.

“A theatrical reading of Déraciné/Uprooted, a new verbatim play by Jenny Montgomery, a Fulbright artist working with the [Life Stories Montreal] project, occurred at Montréal’s prestigious Monument National. It was smart and funny—verbatim theatre at its very best.”
